Baltimore, MD (April 22, 2020) – Atapco Properties (Atapco) is pleased to announce the execution of a lease with the City of Baltimore for relocation of the Baltimore Police Department Central District offices to 401-501 N. Calvert Street. This building was home to The Baltimore Sun from 1950 through 2018. The Baltimore Police Department will be occupying approximately 122,000 square feet of the premises.
This iconic building is rich in Baltimore history, having served as the headquarters of the award-winning newspaper for 68 years. The unique physical aspects of this quasi-industrial building, as well as its accessible central location in the city, are perfectly suited to police operations. The Baltimore Police Department plans to implement this move over the next few months. “Atapco is honored to be able to contribute to this much needed upgrade to the police facilities,” stated Pat Coggins, Executive Vice President of Atapco Properties.
Purchased in May of 2017, the historic building covers two city blocks within the culturally vibrant Mount Vernon neighborhood. The site is immediately adjacent to Interstate 83 and is surrounded by several major Baltimore institutions including Mercy Medical Center, The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore Center Stage, and an expanding residential base.
